lyrics

Whiskey in the Jar

As I was going over the far famed Kerry mountains
I met with Captain Farrel and his money he was counting
I first produced my pistol and then produced my rapier
and said stand and deliver, for I am your bold receiver

Chorus:
Mon cheri lemme do lemme da
Whack fol the derry oh
Whack fol the derry oh
Theres whiskey in the jar

I counted out my money and it made a pretty penny
I put it in my pocket and I took it home to Jenny
she sighed and she swore that she never would deceive me
but the devil take that woman for she never can be easy

(Chorus)

I went into my chamber for to take a slumber
I dreamt of gold and jewels and at that it was no wonder
Jenny took my charges and she filled them up with water
then she sent for Captain Farrel to be ready for the slaughter

(Chorus)

Twas early in the morning, before I rose to travel
The guards were all around me, and likewise captain farrel
I first produced my pistol for she stole away my rapier
But I could not shoot through water so a prisoner I became there

(Chorus)

I dont know who can aid me, my brothers in the army
I think that he is stationed out in Cork or in Killarney
If hell come and join me well go roving in Killkenny
And I know hell treat me better than my darlin Sportin Jenny

(Chorus)

It was early in the morning, near the barracks in Killarney
My brother took his leave, but he did not tell the army
My fortunes I was doubting, till I heard my brother shouting
And now we wait for Farrel up on Killegarney(?) mountain

(Chorus)
